(ECNS) -- The Macao SAR government is considering a system that requires travelers to declare the cash they carry across the border, according to Francis Tam Pak Yuen, secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao on Wednesday.
The cross-border cash declaration system, as an effective anti-money laundering method, is already being used in many regions around the world, Yuen said.
The plan is not targeted at Macao's gambling sector, and it won't put restrictions on the development of Macao's economy, according to Yuen.
Details about time frame and declaration thresholds have not been determined yet, Yuen added.
