Police in Beijing published a "crime map" on Wednesday and singled out the 19 areas with the highest crime rate.
(ECNS) -- The Beijing Public Security Bureau has unveiled a map for the public to stay informed about crimes in the capital.
Altogether 19 neighborhoods have been singled out for highest crime rates among 114 areas in Beijing. Crimes reported by "110" callers and citizens via Weibo and WeChat in the hot spots are much higher than in other places in the city.
Wholesale markets, including Xinfadi agricultural products market and Dahongmen clothing market in Fengtai district, Maliandao tea market and Beijing Zoo clothing market in Xicheng district, and Jinxiu Dadi agricultural products market in Haidian district and Shuitun agricultural products market in Changping district are identified as hot spots for congested traffic, black taxis and theft.
Beijing South Railway Station is listed, as train station security issues persist. And Zhongguancun, the largest trading market for electronics, which is infamous for its bait-and-switch cheats, is marked on the map.
In addition, Songzhuang artist village in Tongzhou district and Yangsongzhuang village in Huairou district, where a large number of nonresidents gather, are also included.
The police also warned of high rates of theft on Beijing Subway Line 1, Line 2 and Line 10, as well as Bus Rapid Transit Line 1, Bus Line 715 and Bus Line Yuntong 114.
Police said overall, crime has declined by 7.7 percent in the first half of the year compared to last year, and it vowed to tackle security issues in the 19 areas with greater efforts.
