(ECNS) -- International students, especially those from Asian countries, play an important role at US science and engineering sectors, according to a report by the National Foundation for American Policy.
According to the report, international students make up 70 percent of full-time electrical engineering graduate students in the United States, 63 percent of those in computer science, and more than half in industrial engineering, chemical engineering, materials engineering and mechanical engineering. China and India topped the list of international students attending US colleges.
"Many excellent US universities rely on international students to maintain their graduate school programs at a high level," said Stuart Anderson, executive director of the foundation.
It is undeniable that foreign students contribute much to academic research and the US economy, Anderson added.
However, most foreigners only work as technicians, and it's hard for them to reach the decision-making level.
A man surnamed Chen, who works at Qualcomm in Southern California, said although there are many Indian and Chinese employees there, the managers and executives are all Americans.
