(ECNS) -- Hair loss represents one of the major concerns for men in Hong Kong, and some of them said they would lead shorter lives in order to regain lost hair, or to ensure they won't go bald, according to a survey conducted by K Marketing & Communications Ltd.
The survey of 530 men in Hong Kong shows that, 30 percent of under-30s are suffering from hair loss of different degrees. Men above 60 are all suffering from hair loss.
When asked which physical condition caused the most concern - with options including sexual problems, hair loss, being overweight and body odor - results showed hair loss came second only to being fat.
Eighty-one percent of respondents said hair loss could have a negative impact on their social lives; 46 percent of men surveyed even said they would take a shortened life in exchange for a full head of hair.
"Men in this decade are more image-conscious than ever before," said psychologist Scarlett Tsoi Yi-men, citing greater academic and societal pressures felt by this generation as the reason for such survey results.
The survey also said the degree of hair loss was in direct proportion to the income level of the men surveyed.
Thirty-nine percent of bald men surveyed have a monthly income of over 40,000 Hong Kong dollars, while those who earn 10,000 to 20,000 Hong Kong dollars a month only account for 9 percent.
