(ECNS) -- Public criticism over the Seoul government's lack of supervision over construction projects grew after two Chinese workers were killed in a bridge collapse in Seoul, Rupublic of Korea (ROK), on Tuesday.
The accident occurred about 1 p.m. local time on the southern part of Banghwa Bridge in western Seoul, when heavy equipment fell from the entrance ramp and crushed the workers, local media reported.
Two workers were killed and another injured in the accident.
Four workers, all Chinese nationals, were working at the construction site on the ramp, municipal officials said. The fourth was unharmed.
The accident has raised public concerns over the "responsibility supervision system" of construction projects in Seoul.
According to the system adopted by the Seoul government in 1994, the supervision group, rather than the program contractor, is in charge of the management and safety of construction projects.
The construction union in ROK also blames the construction company for speeding the project and thus putting workers in danger.
