(ECNS) -- A conflict between foreigners and street vendors in southwest China's Kunming city arising from the language barrier has been resolved, local police said.
Police said on Wednesday that the 15 Chinese vendors and six foreigners involved in the conflict have reconciled and reached an agreement for compensation.
The conflict was caused by an altercation between a foreigner riding an electric bicycle and a street vendor outside a coffee shop on Wenhuaxiang Street, a busy road with traffic and pedestrians, police said.
The foreigner ran into the coffee shop after a physical confrontation with the vendor, and other vendors were called to gather outside the coffee shop, the police added. The operator of the shop, also a foreigner, sprayed the crowd, stinging and burning the vendors' eyes and mouths.
The shop operator ended up paying each vendor 1,000 yuan ($163) or 2,000 yuan ($326), while a foreigner whose nose was injured said he would give up his claims.
