Zhuhai (ECNS) – James Morris, winner of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Economics, has accepted an invitation to be a member of the Consultation Committee for Zhuhai's Hengqin New Area, according to Niu Jing, director of the committee.
The Hengqin New Area is a district of Zhuhai, a Special Economic Zone in south China's Guangdong province.
Morris's role will help Hengqin integrate with the global economy and build up its international business image, Niu said.
The new area has unique advantages in geography and information technology, which will help it grow faster, Morris said.
Morris also referred to the new campus of the University of Macao in Hengqin, saying the new area can rely on the university's strengths in computer engineering to boost development.
