(ECNS) -- Canada's new Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Chris Alexander said the new naturalization policy will allow applicants who meet the requirements to obtain citizenship, according to Canada's Sing Tao Daily.
Last week, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) announced that starting Sept 3, citizenship applicants will only get one chance to take the written test and interview, and absentees must provide a reasonable explanation within 60 days or respond within the 30-day grace period, or they will be disqualified.
CIC has adjusted the test content to make sure the questions are asked again in six months.
Alexander said that many non-Canadian couples give birth in Canada to automatically obtain their passports, and the country will not allow non-Canadians or immigrants to obtain benefits by abusing Canada's policy.
No solutions have been found yet, Alexander added, but he vowed to plug any loopholes in the policy.
Alexander also hoped applicants will fulfill their citizen obligations while enjoying their rights in Canada.
