(ECNS) -- Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd opened an official account on Chinese mobile social communication application WeChat on Tuesday, according to a report by Australian local media on Wednesday.
With the title "Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd opens official WeChat account", a Chinese WeChat message posted by Rudd on Tuesday became a hit among WeChat users in Australia.
In a video contained in the message, Rudd expressed his willingness to strengthen links with the public through WeChat.
"I will be very glad to share with you the happiness of my life through WeChat," said Rudd.
Since the message was posted near Chinese Valentine's Day " or Qixi Festival-- in the video, Rudd also sends his wishes to all the couples.
Rudd has long been active in online social networking. He opened a Sina Weibo account on April 18, 2012, and garnered more than 500,000 Chinese followers. Each of his posts, written in Chinese, receives hundreds, if not thousands, of comments.
Kevin Rudd is committed to winning more support among Chinese communities in Australia as he tries to gain an upper hand in the 2013 federal election.
