(ECNS) -- Hong Kong's Secretary for Food and Health Ko Wing-man said on Thursday that the government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will lift the milk powder restriction when local parents can get enough formula for their babies, according to Xinhua News Agency.
Ko said the government has set up a working group to improve the supply chain of formula milk powder.
The group, involving representatives from retailers, suppliers, and consumers, has started studying the overall supply, restocking at the retail level, order hotline, and pre-order mechanism.
Milk powder may be in short supply during peak travel periods, Ko said, and any mechanism for ordering must bear the surging demand fluctuation from local citizens.
Testing and evaluation are scheduled for the National Day Golden Week, and as these measures can help ensure that local parents have enough formula, the ban will be lifted, he added.
