(ECNS) – Shanghai's Juneyao Airlines is expected to open a direct flight between Shanghai and Kaohsiung as early as September, according to Taiwan's United Daily News.
The airline's business manager in Taiwan, Chen Wei, said the flight will run three times a week in the initial stage.
Juneyao is the first company among mainland airlines to choose Kaohsiung as the first destination and to set up an office there.
Juneyao plans to use an Airbus A320 for the flight, which has eight business class and 150 economy class seats.
Lin Fu-nan, head of the Southern Taiwan Tourism Industry Alliance, said the flight will bring more convenience to mainland tourists, as well as economic benefits to Taiwan.
The alliance's senior advisor Ma I-lung said some travel agencies have scheduled routes according to the direct flight.
