(ECNS) -- Under the influence of Typhoon Trami and the continental airstream, Hong Kong was shrouded in smog on Wednesday, according to the Hong Kong Observatory.
Roadside monitoring stations showed the worst-affected areas to be Causeway Bay, Central, and Mong Kok, with the pollution level reaching 165, 161 and 146, respectively.
The continental airstream brought pollutants down to Hong Kong. Wind direction changed by Typhoon Trami made the air quality even worse in the region, according to the observatory.
It warned people with respiratory problems not to stay on heavily traveled roads for too long.
The combination of pollution and fog will gradually disappear starting this weekend as rain sweeps through Hong Kong, according to the observatory.
