(ECNS) -- Taiwan has bought $18.3 billion worth of arms from the United Sates since Ma Ying-jeou took office, according to the Taiwan-based website ETtoday.
The website cited Taiwan's defense body, saying that Taiwan's purchase is aimed at maintaining regional peace and stability. The US and Taiwan have a "firm mutual trust," the defense body added.
China has always opposed the US' official interactions with and arms sales to Taiwan. China urges the US to abide by the One-China Policy and the three China-US Joint Communiqués, stop official interactions with and arms sales to Taiwan in any form and to not take actions that may impair China-US relations and the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
