(ECNS) -- Taiwan's geographic TV channel will launch a documentary featuring life stories of Guan Yu as the god of war and wealth, according to TVBS.com on Thursday.

As one of China's best-known historical figures throughout East Asia, Guan's true life stories have largely given way to fictionalized ones, most of which are found in the historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms or passed down through generations, in which his deeds and moral qualities have been lionized. Guan is respected as a symbol of loyalty and righteousness.

Producers of the documentary will invite business leaders such as Terry Gou and former gang leader Chang An-lo to Taiwan to talk about the spirit of Guan Yu.

"Economy-wise, Guan Yu as the wealth god protecting businessmen from evil has long served as an epitome of integrity in Chinese culture,"said Terry Gou, adding, "The figure of Guan Yu has turned into a 'brand'. that bears economic significance internationally."

"The essence of brotherhood is loyalty, and the most famous sworn brothers in China.s history are Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei," said Chang An-lo, former leader of Taiwan's United Bamboo Gang and a Guan Yu admirer.

In the documentary, well-known writer Chang Ta-chun will serve as the narrator, and Chu Lu-hao, a Peking Opera master, will play the role of Guan Yu.

The documentary will be broadcast on Saturday.
