Gansu (ECNS) -- A Gansu oil worker named Chen Xiusheng has donated stem cells to a Korean leukemia sufferer, becoming the first person in the province to donate stem cells to a foreigner, according to Yuan Bo, secretary-general of the Gansu Red Cross.
Chen, 40, donated his stem cells in Beijing on Wednesday. The cells were transferred to South Korea immediately.
Chen acknowledged in June that his blood sample was identical to that of the leukemia sufferer, and promised the donation without hesitation.
Stem cell donation causes no harm to health, but can save lives, Chen said.
Chen is the 3,670th donor among 1.6 million Chinese stem cell donation volunteers, and the country's 122nd volunteer donating to foreigners, Yuan added.
