(ECNS) -- Instead of immigrating to the United States through investment, Chinese parents now are trying to making their children US citizens at one go through marriage or adoption, according to the US-based World Journal.
As Chinese high school students rush to join summer camps or study tours of the US, more students want to stay after experiencing US education.
An immigration lawyer said there is a growing trend of Chinese children being adopted by Chinese Americans. Some are adopted by relatives, while others are adopted with no blood relation, he added.
Chinese parents hope their children will become US citizens before turning 16, after being adopted by US citizens before 14, the lawyer said.
In addition, other parents pin their hopes on their children's marriage. Mrs. Lan is one of them. Lan, whose 17-year-old daughter studied at a school in Los Angles, set a goal for her to marry a US citizen in two years.
After learning that the son of her daughter's host family wanted to marry, Lan urged the marriage, regardless of her daughter's hesitation. "You may divorce in the future," she told the daughter. "The ultimate aim is getting citizenship."
