(ECNS) -- Hanshan Temple in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, began offering Buddhist courses for women, but so far, no one has signed up for the program, according to a monk at the temple.
"We received nearly 30 phone calls from people who wanted to know more about the courses, but no one has applied for the program," the monk said.
Hanshan Temple released an enrollment guide for its special undergraduate courses for female believers on Tuesday.
According to the guide, only single women aged between 17 and 40 who have completed public high school or a middle school level of education at a Buddhist academy can apply for the program. The program teaches students about Buddhism.
The most talented graduates will be able to work for the academy at Hanshan Temple or recommended for further study at other Buddhist temples.
The courses are free and students admitted into the program will be given free meals and a modest living stipend.
