(ECNS)-- With the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival two weeks away, various brands of mooncakes have flooded into the US market, according to sinovision.net.
To meet Chinese-American consumers' demand, most mooncakes being sold have simple packaging.
Apart from traditional mooncakes stuffed with lotus seed paste, bean paste, mixed nuts, and egg yolk, those with mochi-like coating and low-sugar paste highlight the market this year.
As people become more aware about healthy eating, mooncakes low in sugar are becoming more popular among consumers.
One supermarket in the US has set aside three shelves to sell mooncakes this year. The director of the supermarket said they expanded the sales area to meet the increasing demand of Chinese-Americans.
The supermarket will hold sales promotions for mooncakes over the next two weekends, he added.
