Taipei (CNS) -- A campaign initiated by Taipei Zoo to name a two-month old female panda cub wrapped up on Sunday.
The one-month campaign amassed more than 11,000 entries. The zoo will choose the six most impressive names and announce them on Sept 14. Participants will then get a chance to choose from those six names.
An official from the zoo said that participants had shown a preference for names that include the character "yuan" (round), which is used in the cub's mother's name.
Names like "Tang Yuan" (sweet glutinous rice dumpling) and "Rou Yuan" (meatball) are among the most popular choices, the official said.
The cub was delivered on July 6 following a series of artificial insemination sessions. Her parents, known as Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan, had failed to conceive naturally.
The zoo said the cub had grown to 4,050 grams as of last Sunday.
Tuan Tuan and Yuan Yuan were given to Taiwan by the mainland in December 2008 and have become star attractions at the zoo.
