(ECNS)-- As China's Mid Autumn Festival draws closer, United States customs has warned travelers that carrying mooncakes containing meat or egg yolks into the US can result in fines of up to $10,000, according to a Sing Tao Daily report on Monday.
During Mid Autumn Festival each year, ports of entry into the US always witness a large number of Chinese travelers bringing mooncakes for their families, said Jaime Ruiz, a spokesman for US Customs and Border Protection.
Some of those travelers have been caught illegally carrying mooncakes containing meat or yolks, said Ruiz.
Fresh, dried or canned meats or meat products made in any other country are generally not allowed to bring into the US, Ruiz added.
