New York (CNS) -- The English edition of former Chinese premier Zhu Rongji's book was released in New York on Monday at a ceremony attended by former US secretary of state Dr. Henry Kissinger.
The four-volume Chinese edition of "Zhu Rongji on the Record: The Road to Reform 1991-1997" is a collection of speeches, articles, letters and instructions written by Zhu during his tenure as vice-premier and premier of China from 1991 to 2003.
Dr. Kissinger and former West German chancellor Helmut Schmidt have written forewords for the book.
In a videotaped speech in English, Zhu thanked all the people who worked on the publication. He said he hoped the book, which "accurately records history as it happened," will help the world understand China and the Chinese people. He also offered his best wishes to the American people.
Dr. Kissinger spoke highly of Zhu's contributions to China's reform and said he valued the friendship between them.
China's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Zhang Yesui and China.s new ambassador to the United States Cui Tiankai also made speeches at the ceremony.
Zhu selected 112 articles for the English edition, which has been released by the Brookings Institution Press in association with China's Foreign Languages Press.
