(ECNS) -- A happiness index survey rated Taipei city the second-happiest place in Taiwan, and the city's deputy mayor responded that Yuan Zai, the newborn panda cub, had contributed to it, according to ebc.net.tw.
The birth of Yuan Zai had great influence on citizens in Taiwan, and even people around the world, said Deputy Mayor Ting Ting-yu.
Taiwan's northern city of Hsinchu was rated happiest, followed by Taipei and Hsinchu county.
Taipei also ranked first among the five special municipalities of Taiwan. It also ranked top among cities and counties on Internet coverage, family disposable income, proportion of the population with college degrees or above, and average life expectancy.
