(ECNS) -- Five new small-sized aircraft and a used one were to be auctioned on China's largest online marketplace Taobao on Thursday morning.
Reporters found all six aircraft on auction on a Taobao page.
Among the six aircraft, three are produced overseas, and two are light sports aircraft, said a Taobao staffer in charge of the auction. The range of starting bids is 1.05 million yuan ($171,610) to 16.8 million yuan ($2.74 million), except the Jabiru J-160, which was designed by Australia and will be auctioned starting at 1 yuan ($0.16), he added.
Taobao also launched a new tab on its auctions page, "pretending to buy," its official blog on Sina said. Clicking on the tab will be shared on the user.s Sina Weibo account, with a post showing he bought an airplane.
The staffer said the online aircraft trade is common abroad.
Participants in the auction must put in a security deposit of 50,000 yuan before the auction, and transportation costs will depend on an agreement between buyer and seller.
The central government has promised to gradually open parts of China's low-altitude airspace - lower than 1,000 meters – which will bring opportunities to the aviation sector.
