Hunchun (ECNS)-- Border police and local fishermen in Hunchun, Northeast China's Jilin province, released a wild leopard seal they rescued on Monday.
It's the first time that the wild mammal was found in Jilin, an inland province, along the coast of Tumen River.
Fisherman Xu Chengfeng found the underage seal in his net while he was fishing on Saturday in a section 15 kilometers away from the river's entrance to the Sea of Japan.
Fur seals also have been seen in the area.
The leopard seal, which are predators living along the coast of temperate zones, is listed as a first-class animal under protection in China.
