(ECNS) -- Beijing is working to break ground on another six subway lines by the end of this year, according to Beijing Evening News.
The six lines are: Line 8 Phase 3, Line 16, Line 15 Phase 1 West Extension, Yanfang Line, Haidian Shanhou Line, and Line 6 West Extension.
In addition, Changba Interconnection Line and Line 8 South will open this year, and four more lines will start running next year.
The city's subway has continued to expand in recent years.
Beijing's subway system has the longest track in the world, with the total distance reaching 456 kilometers and number of lines 17 so far. Now it also holds the single-day ridership record of more than 11 million passengers.
