(ECNS) -- Schools in Guangdong province will adopt a Taiwan textbook for use in the instruction of Chinese classics.
The textbook, listed as compulsory for Taiwan's students, covers 22 sections focusing on Confucianism, including the Analects of Confucius, the Works of Mencius, the Doctrine of the Mean and the Great Learning.
The textbook provides interpretations and inspiring discussions on key ideas of Confucianism such as filial piety, songs, rites and the good nature of humans.
"Our school has taught courses on Chinese classics since the 1990s. However, due to the lack of systematic teaching outlines and unified textbooks, our teachers had to seek teaching materials themselves," according to Zhu Ziping, president of the Affiliated High School of South China Normal University.
"I believe the introduction of the textbook will provide a guide for the teaching of Chinese classics in our school," Zhu added.
Zhonghua Book Company, the publisher of the textbook, has also chosen four high schools in Guangdong province as teaching bases for Chinese traditional culture.
