(ECNS) -- PICC P&C, China's largest supplier of casualty insurance, is trying to assure parents that it will provide coverage if they buy a particular type of insurance, according to a news website.
An insider said the insurance, which covers damage caused by the unruly behavior of children, was launched last year, but was not given much publicity due to its low premiums. Parents can pay a premium as low as 44 yuan ($7.14) and receive as much as 500,000 yuan from the insurer.
Reporters have learned from the company in Jiangsu province that the guardian's liability insurance provides indemnity to a third party for bodily injury or property damage caused by those under 18 years old.
The staffer told reporters that the insurance will pay when a kid breaks a friend's toys or a neighbor's valuable porcelain.
A father surnamed Lin in Gulou distrct of Nanjing said he will buy the insurance for his boy. Another parent expressed worry that the reports will help encourage wild behavior in kids.
Hong Qujie, from the Nanjing Research Center for Education Science, said children are aggressive by nature, so parents should exercise discipline. Parents can't merely depend on such insurance, he added.
