(ECNS)-- Tourists who leave graffiti on monuments or at scenic spots may face fines or detention as China's new Tourism Law takes effect on Oct. 1.
The law states that any tourist who writes graffiti on monuments or commits vandalism in scenic spots shall be given a warning or be fined no more than 200 yuan (32.7 US dollars). If the circumstances are relatively serious, the tourist shall be detained for no less than 5 days, but no more than 10 days and shall, in addition, be fined no less than 200 yuan, but no more than 500 yuan.
