(ECNS) -- A picture of a two-story structure built on an arch bridge in Shengzhou, Zhejiang province, has aroused netizens' interest.
Referred to as a "most impressive structure," the building in Huangze village was built on a bridge above a river in 1991.
"Technically, using a bridge as the foundation for a building requires advanced technology and perfect design," said a local engineer surnamed Chi.
"The building is very dangerous and may cave in at any second. It is really a miracle it has lasted for over 20 years," Chi added.
The building is illegal because it was built by villagers without permission or certification, according to an official in the village surnamed Shen.
Though very dangerous, it has escaped demolition due to complications with permits and bureaucratic miscommunication, Shen said.
"The top priority for us is to work out solutions to accommodate the structure's current residents before the demolition," said Shen. And "since the village government is not entitled to demolish the structure, we should contract the municipal land and resource bureau in Shengzhou city and let them handle the case."
