(ECNS) -- Taiwan's policy agency has ordered police stations at all levels to buy protective nets, as protesters usually throw shoes as a way of venting their anger, nownews.com reported.
The order was issued after shoes were thrown at Ma Ying-jeou, the leader of Taiwan, last December. The stations bought different types of nets according to their budgets. Taipei city bought the most advanced, flexible net, which can reach a height of eight meters.
The diameter of holes in the net are narrowed down from one centimeter to 0.2 centimeter in order to fend off eggs that might be thrown. And the former supporting bamboo sticks have been replaced by aluminum alloy ones to reduce their weight, according to the report.
The high net was used when Ma made a public appearance on Tuesday, it said.
