(ECNS) -- A "post-80s" generation couple who sold their newborn daughter for an iPhone and other expensive items faces public prosecution for child trafficking, according to the Shanghai-based Jiefang Daily.
The couple named Teng and Zhang have no jobs and depend on their parents. They have already had a baby boy, but delivered a girl this year.
Shanghai police in June discovered that Zhang had begun trying to sell her unborn daughter online, which had received some responses.
Zhang said they just wanted to find a good family to adopt the girl, and that the gifts would be "voluntary."
Shanghai police refuted this, saying she had priced her daughter in all her online posts, and that her bankcard received the money on the same day she sent her daughter away.
Police also found that the couple had bought an iPhone and some high-end sports shoes as soon as they received the money for their daughter.
