(ECNS) – A 20-year-old college student has been sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve for convincing a 17-year-old boy to commit murder, while the boy has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, the Beijing News reports.
The two were convicted of armed robbery and causing a death.
The college student's mother called the police on July 12, claiming her "terrified" son, named Liu Yuxuan, had witnessed a murder. After a police investigation, Liu admitted that he had been involved in the killing.
Based on Liu's confession and another tip-off, police arrested the younger boy, named Hu Wei, in Sichuan province on July 19. He also confessed to committing the crime.
At the trial it was established that Liu and Hu had met on the Internet, then chose a location at Beijing Geely University, where Hu stabbed a man to death.
Liu said he had hired Hu to kill the target, aiming to steal enough money to purchase a gun, which would be used to rob another wealthy person.
Hu said that he was not afraid of committing the murder, and "felt stimulated" during his attempted escape.
