(ECNS) -- Keyboard recorder, a device that can record all your mouse and keyboard activity, has emerged as a new tool for thieves to invade privacy in cybercafes and other public internet locations.
With a built-in memory chip installed in the device, the keyboard recorder serves as an information interceptor, according to Shi Xiaohong, a network security expert for Qihu360, a major internet company in China.
When people type on computers, personal information like bank passwords are stored by the keyboard recorder before they are sent, said Shi.
There is no security software that can block such attacks so far, he added.
Though the recorder can be used to steal private data, it is still being sold openly for 588 yuan (96.7 US dollars) on Amazon, an online shopping mall.
"Since there is no legal ban on sales of such a device, it can be sold openly," said Shi.
Shi warned that people should check public computers to see if such programs are installed before using them.
