(ECNS) – A structure called "copy of Sydney Opera House" by locals is sitting idle in an ecological garden in Nantong, Jiangsu province. According to Jiangsu-based Modern Express, the garden will be used by the end of the year.
Locals say the structure is surrounded by a vegetable field and weeds, and it has been standing there for years.
A staffer at the county's Party Committee said the so-called copy is a 120-square-meter glass building that looks like a blooming white flower.
"The architecture is named Petal Greenhouse, designed to cultivate landscape plants," said Chen Wei, a staffer at the garden.
The greenhouse, costing 600,000 yuan ($98,520), was installed in August, and wasn't in use yet because supporting facilities haven't been finished yet, Chen added.
In 2010, a copy of the Sydney Opera House was built in Yancheng, another city in Jiangsu province, which cost nearly 50 million yuan ($8.2 million).
