(ECNS) -- The Beijing Municipal Education Commission issued a ban on Thursday on selling sodas at primary and secondary schools to protect children's health, Beijing Youth Daily reported.
Products without safety guarantees and that are bad for children's health and mental well-being are also banned. In addition, sales of hamburgers and instant noodles should be strictly controlled.
In theory, shops are banned from operating inside schools, except at boarding schools, and they should sell mainly stationery and daily necessities, according to the announcement.
The commission also encourages schools to run their own canteens instead of outsourcing management responsibilities to catering enterprises.
