(ECNS) – Popular rock band Mayday's vocalist Ashin has been invited by a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator to run for Taipei mayor as an independent, according to Taiwan-based China Times.
Ashin said his priority is preparing for the band's upcoming tour. But his record company said they will ask him to give serious consideration to the suggestion.
DPP legislator Chao Tien-lin said Ashin's participation could relieve the partisan bickering between Pan-Blue Coalition (tending to favor a Chinese nationalist identity over a separate Taiwanese one) and Pan-Green Coalition (favoring Taiwan independence over Chinese reunification).
What's more, it will offer an inspiring dreamer a chance to serve society, Chao added.
Chao said the band's inspiring lyrics and concern for society made him believe the singer is capable of being mayor.
Su Tseng-chang, chairman of DPP, had no comments, but said his party is open to recommendations of the right person from any circle.
Mayday is planning a concert tour to London, Paris, and Amsterdam in February.
