(ECNS) – China's Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) has released measures for pollution control in the upcoming winter, requiring enterprises and public institutions to apply a flexible working schedule when the highest level warning for air pollution is issued, Beijing News reported.
Classes and outdoor events should be suspended when a red alert is issued, according to the measures.
The ministry also sets a number of tough measures to control air pollution, such as requiring enterprises to suspend or limit production, limiting the number of cars on roads, controlling dust pollution, and banning outdoor barbecues.
It urges citizens to reduce setting off fireworks and encourages enterprises to overhaul facilities for the winter.
Any enterprise suspected of environmental crimes will be subject to criminal prosecution, according to the ministry. Advanced warnings should be issued for heavily polluted weather.
