(ECNS) – An online video showing a doctor chuckling as he counts kickbacks from medical sale representatives has drawn fire among netizens, Beijing News reports.
The doctor is a vascular surgeon at the First Hospital of Baoding, in Hebei province, according to the publisher of the video. An employee of the hospital's discipline commission has verified that.
Most netizens denounced the doctor, while some said it's not unusual to see doctors accepting money from patients and medical representatives.
The hospital employee said the discipline commission's investigation shows the doctor was vice director of the department of vascular surgery, and had received more than 20,000 yuan (US$3,284) from two drug kickbacks.
"He's one of the mainstays of our hospital. I didn't expect to see him engaged in improper behavior," said the employee.
Wang has received administrative punishment from the hospital, and his case will be decided by the local judicial department, according to the employee.
