(ECNS) -- China Central Television (CCTV) headquarters, a landmark building in Beijing, was named winner of the "Best Tall Building Worldwide" by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) during its 12th Annual Awards Ceremony and Dinner in Chicago last Thursday.
Located in Beijing's Central Business District (CBD), the 234-meter, 44-story CCTV building was deemed the best of this year's four regional winners.
The council said of the building: "The CCTV headquarters is an unusual take on the skyscraper typology. Instead of competing in the race for ultimate height and style through a traditional two-dimensional tower soaring skyward, CCTV's loop poses a truly three-dimensional experience, culminating in a 75-meter cantilever."
The four regional winners for 2013 include The Bow in Calgary, Canada (Americas); CCTV in Beijing, China (Asia and Australia); The Shard in London, United Kingdom (Europe); Sowwah Square in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (Middle East and Africa).
An international body in the field of tall buildings and sustainable urban design, the CTBUH is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing tall building design and construction. The council announces the title of 'The World's Tallest Building' every year and is an authority on the official height of tall buildings.
