(ECNS) – An arrogant thief confident of his speed shouted, "Come and catch me!" while being chased by police, but he didn't expect the policeman was a trail runner, and was caught with his pants down, according to Chengdu Business Daily.
Policeman Zhao Keyu and his partner in Guangyuan's Wangcang county, Southwest China's Sichuan province, received a report that a thief surnamed Lu had taken a man's money and beat him. As they reached the scene, Lu ran up a hill, which was too steep for the police car.
Seeing that the police couldn't drive up the hill, Lu, more than one kilometer away, shouted to Zhao, "You can't drive the car! Do you want to chase me? Come and catch me!"
Lu assumed the policeman couldn't catch up with him. On the contrary, Zhao, who had won second place in trail running among Guangyuan's policemen, was inching closer.
Lu ran into a thicket, only to get his clothes caught in the tree limbs. He desperately took off his pants to escape, but was caught.
Lu confessed he had stolen 13,000 yuan.
"I thought since the police couldn't drive their car to chase me, I would escape," he said.
