(ECNS) -- The Hefei city procuratorate has successfully used polygraph testing to crack down on crime, taking a lead in the country, and one man has found that out the hard way, the Beijing Youth Daily reports.
A bribery suspect surnamed Liu doubted the capacity of lie detectors and recently volunteered to be tested.
Investigators noticed unusual physiological responses from Liu when questioned about property and vehicles, said Hong Jun, director of technology at the procuratorate.
The suspect's defenses broke down once he was told that he was lying, and the next day he confessed to everything, Hong added.
With the help of four lie detectors, a county in Hefei has solved thirteen cases, he said. "Although the test results cannot be used as proof, polygraph testing can offer clues or be used as an interrogation tool."
A lie detector measures and records several physiological indices such as blood pressure, pulse, and respiration, while the subject is asked a series of questions, Hong said.
Secret service staff and hungry people should be excluded from the test, he added.
