(ECNS) -- Volunteers in Zhejiang province have discovered that many "golden" couples look surprisingly alike, the Hangzhou-based Metropolitan Express reports.
Since 2004, students at Ningbo University have taken anniversary photographs for more than 1,000 couples who have been married for at least 50 years in Ningbo's Jiangbei district.
Looking back on the photos, they found that all the couples had similar faces and facial expressions.
They are all happily married couples, and some even hold hands all the time, said a student named Teng Jianmin.
Wu Tingyu, head of the Culture Research Institute at Ningbo University of Technology, said it's a widespread belief that couples, particularly those who have been together for many years, look similar to each other. It's thought that the same lifestyles, diets and similar mindsets make their faces wrinkle in a similar way, he said.
Li Libo, a psychologist at Ningbo University, said people are attracted to those who have similar faces, facial expressions or body gestures.
