(ECNS) -- A prominent animal rights organization has accused some Chinese farmers of torturing angora rabbits by ripping out their fur while they're still alive, gmw.cn reported.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has released a video from an undercover investigation of several angora rabbit farms in China's Shandong and Jiangsu provinces.
The video shows white angora rabbits tied to wooden tables. Workers can be seen holding them and tearing off clumps of fur while the animals scream in agony.
With their downy fur pulled off, the pink-skinned rabbits were thrown back into their cages.
The rabbits are treated this way every three months, PETA said, adding that if they survive for two to five years, they will be slaughtered and sold for meat.
PETA urges people to boycott products made from angora rabbit fur. As much as 90 percent of the world's angora fur comes from China, it said.
PETA is the largest animal rights organization in the world, with more than three million members and supporters, according to its website.
