(ECNS) – A young woman said online that she is living in a yurt that she put up herself on a house roof in one of Beijing's hutongs, sparking debates on the Internet, according to Beijing Times.
She said the sky-high cost of living in Beijing inspired her to put up the yurt, which cost her about 4,000 yuan ($656). "I've lived in it for over a year. It just feels like a normal room."
Many netizens said the yurt was stunning, and that it can be an option for "Beijing drifters", people from outside Beijing who live and work in the capital without a stable residence, to cut down on rent.
Another group said putting up a yurt on a roof was illegal and it should be removed.
Some even questioned whether it really existed, because the woman refused to disclose its location.
An urban management officer in Dongcheng District said they had received a tip about the yurt on Thursday afternoon, but they hadn't found it yet.
