(ECNS) -- The Chinese Embassy in Japan has launched a voluntary registration system for Chinese nationals as a safeguard in the event of "unexpected emergencies."
The registration will help us stay in touch with local Chinese and provide quicker assistance during emergencies, the embassy said, adding that the privacy of those who register will be strictly protected.
Providing consular protection and assistance for Chinese nationals is one of the major responsibilities of Chinese diplomatic missions overseas, the embassy also said.
Chinese nationals who register with the embassy should first get the "voluntary registration form for Chinese nationals in Japan." The form is available online at the embassy's official website. Chinese citizens can also go the embassy in person and get the form.
Chinese citizens are advised to submit their completed forms to service windows at the consular section of the embassy (office hours: 9:00-12:00 am).
Completed forms can also be submitted via fax (03-3403-5447), email (lsb@china-embassy.or.jp), and mail (address: Moto-Azabu 3-4-33. Minato-ku, Tokyo).
