(ECNS)-- A deputy to the Beijing Municipal People's Congress suggests public hospitals in Beijing provide free abortions for young students who get pregnant accidentally, according to the Beijing Morning Post.
"The move will help prevent money-less students from resorting to illegal clinics for abortions," Wei Aimin said.
"Since the abortion costs at public hospitals are unaffordable for students, who may have gotten pregnant accidentally, some of them will get unsafe operations at less expensive but illegal private clinics, which can harm their health," Wei said. "So I suggest public hospitals in Beijing offer free abortions to students, or charge no more than 100 yuan ($16.40)."
Wei also suggested hospitals arrange psychological counseling for students who get abortions.
"Advertisements about painless abortions from illegal hospitals should also be banned on all kinds of media platforms," Wei added.
All concerned parties, including parents, schools, hospitals, and governments, should work in collaboration and care more about the children.
"Instead of censuring the children blindly, parents should take a tolerant attitude and help those children get through the tough moments in their lives, to help them understand their mistakes," Wei said. "Schools should launch sex education classes to help more teenagers get knowledge related to birth control."
