(ECNS) -- China's first crowdfunding platform for media was launched Thursday, aimed at bringing more original reports to readers, the Beijing News reported.
Crowdfunding websites, which gather money from the public to support efforts initiated by other people or organizations, have gained more attention in China and abroad.
The crowdfunding platform for media is an attempt by Zhongchou.com, a Chinese crowd funding website, at We-Media, allowing everyone to post his reporting plan and raise funds to carry out investigations.
Twelve netizens have posted reporting plans and asked for financial support from 1,000 yuan ($164) to 8,000 yuan ($1,313). An investigation on mobile games has collected 3,175 yuan from 46 supporters.
Xin Haiguang, a freelance journalist, praised it for initiating a way of winning financial support for independent reporters.
