(ECNS) – A senior at Northwest Normal University in Lanzhou, Northwest China's Gansu province, was stabbed while stopping a thief from mugging a female student, and now he is faced with medical bills he can't pay, according to Lanzhou Morning Post.
Hao Feng was stabbed three times on his upper body on his way to class on the morning of Nov. 28. "Seeing a man attempting to steal a girl's cellphone, I shouted to stop him," Hao said. "And then two other people approached me and attacked me."
One of Hao's fellow students tried to go after the thieves, but lost them.
Hao spent over 8,000 yuan at the hospital, with some help from his classmates. Hao, who is from a poor family, has been working part-time to earn his living expenses.
Hao said he didn't tell his family about his injury, and the medical bills would be a problem for him.
Meanwhile, the female student Hao tried to protect hasn't emerged yet. Hao's classmates are looking for her in hopes that she will testify to Hao's heroic deed.
