(ECNS) – A number of beauty institutions in Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning province, have organized South Korean plastic surgeons who aren.t licensed in China to tour the city performing plastic surgery, according to People's Daily.
A 28-year-old woman surnamed Wang had a double-eyelid surgery for 30,000 yuan that failed. It was done at a beauty medical institution claiming in online commercials to have top surgeons from South Korea.
Wang and her family tried to get an explanation from the institution, only to find it gone. She had to spend tens of thousands of yuan more to repair her eyelids.
Many beauty institutions with no medical license in the city have served as agents, inviting surgeons from South Korea to perform surgery at hotels or office buildings, and the surgeons never register with the local hygiene department, an insider said.
"About 20 plastic surgeons are invited to the city every month and perform a dozen operations," he added.
According to Chinese law, foreign physicians must register for a license before performing surgery in China. And only two Korean plastic surgeons are licensed to practice in Shenyang, according to statistics from the Shenyang Bureau of Health.
Cheng Liguo, chairman of the Liaoning Hairdressing and Beauty Association, said the so-called top Korean plastic surgeons in some beauty institutions' commercials are in fact mediocre, and a number of them are inexperienced.
Tao Kai, chief of plastic surgery at General Hospital of Shenyang Military Region, said most institutions only intend to charge more by using Korean surgeons as a publicity stunt.
"At public hospitals, a double eyelid surgery usually costs around 3,000 to 5,000 yuan. But at these beauty institutions claiming to have Korean surgeons, it will cost over 30,000 yuan, and many customers buy into it."
