(ECNS) -- An 11-year-old boy in Taiwan let his hair go uncut for five years before donating it to a cancer foundation, according to a report released by Taiwan's ETTV on Sunday.

The boy named Lee Kuan-lu is a fifth-grader at Zhu-Qiang Elementary School in Hualien. With his delicate face and long hair, Lee has frequently been mistaken for a girl during the past five years.

Though ridiculed by classmates, Lee defended his decision, saying he hoped his hair would help girls of his age who suffer from cancer.

Lee said his parents have shot a short film named "Ordinary Dream" to help others understand his actions.

The Taipei-based Hope Foundation for Cancer Care accepted Lee's hair.
